Corporate Spotlight: Sumo Citrus x Rareform - Turning 5 Billboards into Custom Zion Sling Bags

Corporate Spotlight: Sumo Citrus x Rareform - Turning 5 Billboards into Custom Zion Sling Bags

At Rareform, every bag starts with a story.

For our latest Corporate Spotlight, we partnered with Sumo Citrus, the bold, bright citrus brand known for its vibrant purple and orange campaigns and enormous, easy-to-peel, incredibly sweet mandarins.

But this project wasn’t just about merch. It was about giving five massive national billboards a second life.

And for our everyday Rareform customers, it’s a powerful reminder: the same upcycling process behind your bag can transform large-scale campaigns into something lasting.

The Original Material

Sumo Citrus launched a nationwide marketing campaign, developed by creative agency BOTH / AND and brought to market by food and beverage agency The Missing Ingredient, featuring eye-catching 14 x 48-foot billboards across the U.S.

When the campaign wrapped, they chose not to discard the material.

Instead, they sent us:

  • 5 full-size PVC billboards
  • 16,800 total square feet of material

Rather than entering the waste stream, this durable vinyl was sorted, cleaned, cut, and reimagined at our facility.

This is the same billboard material that makes every Rareform bag one-of-a-kind.

The Product: A Custom Large Zion Sling

Sumo Citrus wanted a premium, sustainable product for its merch store, something functional, playful, and as unmistakably unique as the fruit.

Together, we created a fully custom version of our Zion Sling Bag featuring:

  • One-of-a-kind cuts from the real campaign billboards

  • Signature Sumo purple and orange graphics

  • A custom interior pocket sized specifically to fit a Sumo Citrus mandarin

Yes you heard that right, designed to carry the fruit itself.

The result was more than branded merchandise. It was a continuation of the campaign, from highway to everyday life.

Sustainability Impact

Material Type: PVC Billboard Vinyl
Total Material Upcycled: 16,800 square feet

To put that into perspective:

  • 16,800 sq ft will cover more than half of a football field!
  • Estimated material diverted: 1,150 pounds

That’s over half a ton of durable PVC kept in circulation.

For Rareform customers, this is the scale of impact happening behind the scenes. The billboard you carry as a tote or sling might have once been 48 feet wide along a freeway.

Why This Matters for the Rareform Community

Corporate projects like Sumo Citrus allow us to:

  • Divert large volumes of material at scale
  • Keep billboard vinyl in continuous circulation
  • Expand what’s possible in custom design
  • Strengthen the circular economy we’re building together

Whether you’re purchasing a one-of-a-kind tote from our eCommerce shop or carrying a custom project like this Zion Sling, you’re part of the same mission: transforming waste into products built to last.
